CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

Ukpor Patriots UK: Celebrating 20 Years of Service and Impact

Ukpor is a prominent town in Nnewi South Local Government Area in Anambra State, currently under the leadership of our President General (PG), Chief Bart. Ikenna Mbaz-Amaechi, is a community blessed with a rich cultural heritage, resilient people, and a scenic landscape of hills, rivers, and lush valleys. Commanding 55 vibrant villages, Ukpor is a town built on unity, tradition, and a shared vision of progress.

The journey towards modern-day Ukpor began in 1919, when the first unified leadership structure was established. This milestone marked the separate rule of the Aro-Ewa and Oba-Agu systems. The foundation of common identity was laid by visionary leaders like Chief Christopher Okechukwu Amaechi, and others who formed Otu Onye Emenwetu in Okaishana in Ndiida Ukpor, alongside the Aryi Otu Ofu group in Elu Ukpor, led by Chief Edward Maduze and his peers.

Following the civil war, a new era of leadership emerged in 1972, accompanied by the formation of micro-unions organisations dedicated to community advancement. It was during this period that the Ukpor General Hospital was first established, offering essential healthcare services to the people. Over the years, this facility has remained a critical milestone in the town’s healthcare system.

Ukpor Patriots UK is proud to have contributed significantly to the revitalisation of this hospital. Through collaborative fundraising and collective commitment, we successfully undertook renovation projects to enhance our operational capacity. Currently, we are currently planning the installation of a modern wells network to ensure consistent access to clean water—an effort aimed at restoring dignity and reducing the need for residents to travel to distant towns for medical services.

The formation of the Ukpor Improvement Union (UIU) in 1972/73 provided a strong organisational foundation that continues to guide the town’s development agenda. With contributions from both home and abroad, Ukpor has become a shining example of what a united community can achieve.

Ukpor Patriots UK was formed in 2005 by the Late Mr Chukwudum Akaedu, Chief Sirato Ugbozaki, Chief Umy Anyaeme, Chief Bonny Ikechigbu, Chief Ezihe Emelekon, Mr Chief Anyaecho Odumebo, Prince EM James Okpokwu, Mr Anthony Agim, Mr Nnamdi Okechukwu Okafor, Mr Captain Okafor, Mr Tony Ezenechukwu, Mr Lucky Akaedu, and a few others.

Mr Chukwudum Akaedu was our first Chairman. He was succeeded by Ogikajihe Manu Anyanwu, followed by Mr Bonny Ikechigbu, Chief Innocent Anaedu (Turned), late Simply Afubunke (Ezike Onyeyeusule II), and presently, Mr Okechukwu T. Okafor (Dan Akachukwu Diya).

Now, as Ukpor Patriots UK celebrates its 20th anniversary, we look to the future with renewed purpose. A central highlight of this year’s celebration is our fundraising initiative for the Ukpor Acquisition Centre—a vital project aimed at empowering the youth through education, vocational training, practical skills training, mentorship, and economic opportunities, ensuring that the next generation of Ukpor sons and daughters are equipped to thrive.

Our story is one of dedication, diaspora-driven impact, and a deep love for our homeland. As we mark two decades of purposeful service, we invite all friends and partners to join us in reaching this vision.

Together, we build. Together, we empower. Together, we rise.

Chief OKECHUKWU T OKAFOR
